Project(s): Illinois Geometry Lab; We have a current Chancellor's Public Engagement Award (under Illinois Geometry Lab). My work has primarily been in outreach to middle school students to make math fun through hands-on activities with 3D solid geometry. As part of the IGL, I also support multiple undergraduate research projects each semester. |

Industrial Design is the bridge between STEM and the lived experience. As we design and develop technology for the user, it is critical that we ensure the final outcome is empathic with the users' needs but also intuitive to use. |

Project(s): Enhancing Student Learning in Introductory Physics Through the Use of Multimedia Learning Modules and Conceptual Analysis and Student Learning in Physics. Also working with Gary Gladding on a College of Engineering-funded teaching in engineering project. My research focuses on the organization and deployment of physics knowledge by experts and novices. In my research, I address questions such as: What is the mechanism by which a beginner develops expertise in a complex domain such as physics? Why is it that the problem solving skills for traditional textbook physics problems often develop faster than conceptual understanding? Why is appropriate transfer of knowledge, even across the same domain and across remarkably similar contexts, so difficult to achieve? |
