Luisa-Maria Rosu

Luisa-Maria RosuInterim Director

Luisa-Maria Rosu joined I-STEM as a Research Associate in 2011. A former mathematics teacher, elementary through college, Luisa’s interests evolved from teachers’ professional knowledge and continuing education to the quality of teaching and the evaluation of STEM programs in higher education.

As a Research Associate at I-STEM, Luisa participated in the planning and development of the evaluation of iFoundry, a College of Engineering curriculum incubator seeking to transform undergraduate education for engineers. She also conducted the evaluation for the Strategic Instructional Initiative Program (SIIP) in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Since August 2015, as the interim director of I-STEM, Luisa focused on developing a new approach to reconfigure many of the existent STEM collaborations in a strong institutional STEM R&D partnership between UIUC, Illinois schools and communities, and industry partners.

Besides coordinating the evaluation of more than 20 STEM programs, she has been also involved in the evaluation and research studies for the following projects:

  • NSF – Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) at NCSA UIUC.
  • REU: Incubating a New Community of Leaders Using Software, Inclusion, Innovation, Interdisciplinary and OpeN-science (NSF-INCLUSION)
  • Increasing Diversity in Evolutionary Anthropological Sciences (IDEAS) with the American Association of Physical Anthropologists
  • POETS Engineering Research Center – Educational Initiatives - RET program
