The Illinois Science Olympiad is a science competition designed to get Illinois middle school and high school students interested in and excited about science. A hands-on event, the Illinois Science Olympiad (ISO) holds competitions which emphasize biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics using engineering and technology to combine several of these disciplines. The ISO holds eight regional competitions throughout the state; winners of the local regional events then compete in the state tournament. The next Illinois state tournament will be held at Illinois on April 20, 2013.
Like ISO, each participating state Science Olympiad holds regional competitions throughout the state, with winners then competing in the state tournament and the top state teams advancing to the Science Olympiad National Tournament competition. The national tournament will be held at Wright State University May 17-18, 2013.
